Mindful Monday

Welcome to Mindful Monday.

Every Monday for the next six weeks I am going to share insight into Little Pocket of Love by sharing a quote and the meaning behind it.

‘Me Time’ is something I have spoken about in my debut book, Broken Love as well as my latest book, Little Pocket of Love. It’s something I only really started to focus on in recent years, when I learned how to enjoy my own company.

In College, I needed noise and people around me at all times. I hated being alone. Because I hated myself. It took years of refocusing on myself to learn to love myself and my own company. Living in London is where I had no choice but to become friends with myself. At the weekends, I would spend quite a bit of time alone and would sit in the park reading or walk around the City and see the place. When I returned to Ireland, I had grown fond of my own company.

Reading, writing, exploring my surroundings or getting a coffee and sitting outside are some things that I do for ‘Me time’. Years of therapy, talking and sharing all added to my growth, self love and self compassion.

This past year, we had no choice but to be alone and I used this time wisely to prioritise myself. Candles, incense and setting the scene, comfy clothes, warm feelings of comfort.

Sitting with my own thoughts, meditating and yoga have all added to the development of my relationship with myself. Remember, it’s the longest one you will ever have so make it great.

If you find you aren’t making ‘Me time’ for yourself, set aside 20 minutes this week. Leave your phone in another room and either read, write, or meditate. Or do a bit of all three. Start small. And build.

See how you feel before, during and after the experience.

What came to mind?

What memories flooded back?

Write down all that you felt and thought about.

Evaluate your life. What makes you happy right now? What isn’t working for you?

Re-evaluate. What small changes can you make?

Mind yourself this week and be mindful,
