Wow, Happy New Year! Almost three years since I have posted here. I have been neglecting this website but I am committing to updating it on a regular basis and I will also share what I have been up to over the years, which includes a lot of travel (South Africa, Africa, Australia and Vietnam).
After spending over 7.5 years living in lovely Limerick, I am now a Galway Girl again. September 30th 2023, I shut the door to my beloved apartment one last time. When I received the eviction notice six month prior, I felt instantly panicked. Panic because I didn’t know what to do or where to go. I looked at apartments available in the city but with the costs rising, it was ridiculous money to be paying for a rental. As the summer came and went, I found myself backed into a corner.

BUT there is one thing I had been doing all along and that was saving. I was in full-time employment at that time and I was freelancing. With so much work, I could save. There was something else, I was longing to see more of the world. Suddenly this corner I was backed into didn’t seem so claustrophobic. I now had options or at least some savings to buy me more time.
With that, I handed in my notice and booked a flight to South Africa. I spent a few days in Cape Town before flying to Kenya for a safari trip. We travelled overland to Uganda and back to Kenya, all in two weeks. From there, I flew to Melbourne and spent two more weeks travelling around Australia. I packed five locations into that short time. There’s one thing about me, I am not very patient and I don’t like hanging around very long. I love having a jam packed schedule, go-go-go, tick, tick, tick.
I arrived back to Ireland early December and then it was Christmas time with the family and my friends. But the travel bug was very much alive. At the end of 2023, I flew to Vietnam for one month. That for me was my A-HA moment. Everyone speaks of this “finding yourself” while travelling. And over the years, I never got that and thought it was just some wishy washy thing. Turns out it just hadn’t happened. More on that when I share my travel posts.
Back to Ireland in February 2023. Luckily I had some work lined up as I was now a fully fledged freelancer. I was living in my home house again. Summer 2024, I moved into Galway city for three months and to say I had a great summer, would be an understatement. I have spent summers abroad, J1, etc but the best summer of my life was spent in Galway in 2012 when I moved into an apartment off Quay Street with a group of girls I had met in NUIG. I was only getting to know them when they asked me to move in and to this day, they are my best friends. And last summer was much the same.
Funny how we can travel all over, experience so much but still it’s at home where the best memories are created.
It’s now January 2025, Nollaig na mBán. I live close to home with my other half (that’s another days story as well) with our puppy, Louis. I am facing into my second year as a freelance broadcaster, journalist, author, the list goes on and I am feeling so content in myself. I love my work, albeit slightly daunting being self-employed, I have overcome so much in my 35 years and there has been enough hardship to last a lifetime, now it’s time to truly enjoy the fruits of my labour.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. Whether you’re new here or someone who has been following my journey, you are very welcome. I hope to use this space to inspire, share, learn and love.
